Acrylic, UV reactive paint on canvas.
I painted this piece as a way to depict the years worth of struggle I have faced with my mental health. I wanted to show the feeling in an ambiguous way so there would be room for interpretation with it. I used dark blues and black to symbolise the feeling of emptiness and lostness that comes hand in hand with mental health battles. I painted the sky dark grey/black to signify that, for me, even if I escaped the water I am still met with the darkness. To contrast this I used lighter and brighter blues nearer the surface of the water to indicate the personal feeling of calmness in the struggle. I also wanted to include glow-in-the-dark paint to show that even in the darkest of times there may still be a flicker of light, of hope. This piece is not just about the struggle, its about what comes after.
